Gluten Free Play Dough

Play dough. We love play dough in this house (who doesn’t!) but unfortunately the gluten-containing version doesn’t love us back, so today I thought I would whip up a safe little batch for my darling boy.  And the best part of this whip-up-in-a-flash recipe is the kneading. I forgot how therapeutic it is!

Ingredients:

1 c gluten free flour (I used chickpea today but I’m sure rice flour or similar would also work), sieved

1/2 c salt

1 Tbs cream of tarter

2 Tbs olive oil

Approximately 1/2 c boiling water

Colours: Yellow – 1 Tbs turmeric powder, Red – 1 small beetroot, Blue – 1/4 red cabbage *

Directions:

1. Mix ingredients except water.

2. Add water until a thick dough forms (start off with 1/2 cup and add more gradually as you need it) and knead well until smooth.

* To make yellow, mix turmeric in while combining ingredients. To make red, boil the beetroot, puree with a stick blender then pour the boiling water through a sieve into the mixture to make the dough. To make blue, boil roughly chopped cabbage, puree with a stick blender then pour the boiling water through a sieve into the mixture to make the dough. Colours can then be mixed to make orange, purple and green.

If it become dry after playing with, just knead a few drops of water through to refresh.
