This pregnancy has been an incredibly different journey to my first. This time round, my placenta is anterior (at the front), meaning I barely feel any movement during the day and it is not until I rest in the evening that I feel baby’s tiny movements. It has been a constant reminder to be quiet and still, and really take the time to enjoy those flutters, however tiny they may be.

Whilst I did have some food aversions and cravings when I was pregnant with Finn, this time round has reached a new level of uncontrollable get-in-my-belly food and beverage requirements! This refreshing ‘green OJ’ has been one of them, especially during the last month or so of the 22 weeks (and counting) of intermittent morning sickness. The combination of tangy orange and zingy ginger goes down a treat!

Gluten, dairy, refined sugar (still contains natural fructose), nut & egg free, raw vegan, paleo.



1 large or 2 small oranges

5 ice cubes

A handful of young greens such as spinach, kale, cavelo nero etc

1cm stick of fresh turmeric

1/2cm stick of fresh ginger

1/4 – 1/3 cup water or 100% coconut water

Optional: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice or 1 tsp apple cider vinegar + a grind of black pepper if you’d like to increase the bioavailability of the curcumin in the turmeric


1. Roughly chop fresh turmeric and ginger.

2. Blend all ingredients until smooth.
